Description:
Algren is a fresh rock band from Chicago that plays original music known for its unique blend of introspective lyrics, searing guitar riffs, grooving rhythms, and dynamic songwriting. They combine a few styles of music to create a sound that is melodic, raw, energetic, and powerful. Algren's music has been compared to that of 30 Seconds to Mars, Thursday, and Incubus. The band prides itself on giving audiences a live performance that will be remembered.

Algren formed in late 2006 and hit the ground running, quickly building a strong repertoire of alternative/indie rock songs. Known for their inspiringly energetic sets, Algren is quickly building up a devoted fan base with the help of various media outlets, such as Q101, 97.9 The Loop, Fearless Radio, the Red Eye, Chicago's Rock, Rock Chicago on CANTV-19, and The Local Tourist. Algren is also a member of Chicago Noise Machine, the consortium of local bands that also includes A Birdsong Valentine, Bullet Called Life, Echoson, Heavy the Fall, Lucid Ground, Reverie, 72 Hours, and Simplistic Urge.

Algren released their debut album, "A Wayward Sound Floods the Streets" in May 2009 along with an accompanying graphic novel. The story and art of the book incorporate song titles and lyrics to further explore the themes of the album, providing the perfect visual complement to the music.

Band Members:
Although just formed in August 2006 the members of Algren bring with them a rich musical history that has aided their rapid development as a band. Vocalist Aaron Priest, Guitarist Jonathan Iseman and Bassist Jason Holly played together for three years in the band Amici, a group out of Valparaiso, Indiana that received numerous accolades and significant regional radio airplay for tracks on the 2003 release, “801 EP”. After a two year musical hiatus, the three friends reconnected in Chicago last year and formed Algren with new drummer Ben Brown.

Latest News:
NEWS 10/27/09 After much consideration and deliberation, Chicago rock band Algren has decided to call it quits. The split is completely amicable and we remain close friends but the time has come to go our separate ways. We had a great run and will take a load of wonderful memories with us. We appreciate the support, friendship, and love you have given over the years and would like you to celebrate with us once more. Algren will play a farewell show on Friday, November 20 at Elbo Room, our favorite and most frequented venue, where we always feel comfortable and play like there’s no tomorrow. We will be performing with our good friends and fellow Chicago Noise Machine members 72 Hours.

NEWS 2/11/09 Algren is putting the finishing touches on our first full-length album, "A Wayward Sound Floods the Streets," and we are on pace for an April 2009 release. In conjunction with the album, we will also release a graphic novel that further explores the themes of "Wayward Sound". Algren worked with local writer Jason Hissong and Wisconsin artist Brian Defferding of Deftoons Comics to craft an original story and design influenced by the eleven songs. The album/book release show is tentatively scheduled for Reggie's Rock Club on Saturday, April 4. Don't miss it!

NEWS 1/10/09 Algren has entered the studio to begin work on our first full album. We are thrilled to be working with Sam Beckley from Gremlen Studios again, this time on a project of far greater scope than our previous demo recordings. We will be writing daily blogs recapping the studio experience and recording some video blogs as well so check this site regularly for updates. We'll post some samples as soon as they become available. FYI, we are looking at late March or early April for the album release.

11-17-08 SOLD OUT! That's what's Chicago Noise Machine accomplished for their first show at the Cubby Bear this weekend. Algren is very proud to have been a part of this extremely successful event and we look forward to announcing CNM's next step very soon. Thanks to everyone that came out and supported us!

8-22-08 Algren is pleased to announce that we are part of Chicago Noise Machine, a partnership of bands in Chicago that hope to increase attention on the local music scene by coordinating their performance and promotion efforts. Algren joins A Birdsong Valentine, Bullet Called Life, Echoson, Heavy the Fall, Lucid Ground, Reverie, 72 Hours, and Simplistic Urge at the Chicago Noise Machine launch show at Cubby Bear on Friday November 14 at 7:00pm where all nine bands will perform. Find more info online at www.myspace.com/chicagonoisemachine.

7-29-08 Algren recently decided to record a full-length album so we will be hard at work over the next two months to write a lot new material. We'll be taking some time off to concentrate on writing but don't worry, the hiatus won't last too long. The schedule is tentative, but we hope to start recording in December/January and release the album sometime that winter.
