Description:
The Steve Stone Band would be classified as an Americana/Texas Country band if a label had to be put on them. In actuality, they are much more than that. While they place the emphasis on their original music, they perform hits ranging from Pat Green's "Take Me Out To The Dancehall" to Merle Haggard's "Workin' Man Blues" to Jimi Hendrix' "Red House". You will never know what's coming next! They are totally unique in their style and it is this straying from "cookie cutter country" that makes their sound so different and refreshing!
Band Members:
Steve Stone, from Grapevine Texas, is the lead singer of the band and the rhythm guitar player. Steve is also a songwriter and has written many original songs. His desire to play country music started while on vacation in Nashville in 1967. It was there that Steve and his family met Roy Acuff and Brother Oswald, and were given a personal tour of the Roy Acuff museum and back stage passes to the Ryman. While backstage young Steve met many other country legends such as Johnny Cash, Ernest Tubb and Lorretta Lynn, who took a liking to him instantly and led him around the backstage while holding his hand.
C.D. McCullough, from Denton Texas, is the bands bass player and also has a couple of original songs to his credit. C.D. is from a family full of musicians and has been playing since the tender age of 9. He had the distinct honor in high school of being the first electric bass player in a marching band in the State of Texas (according to Marching Band Monthly, January 1979 issue). Since High School, C.D. has played with a lot of bands that vary in style including rock, funk and country. He is best known for his time in the '80's with the bands "White Buck Tulsa", a southern country tour band and "Retro Rodeo", a classic country tour band.
Randy "Bone" Rainey, from Denton Texas, is the drummer for the band. Randy began playing in the late 60's, mostly influenced by the rock of that era. By the 70's, the cosmic cowboy sound got his attention. In the late 70's, family and work took him away from music but he couldn't stay away. In the early 90's he returned to music and since has been involved in Christian R&B, classic rock and country. Now days he is drawn toward the Americana sound and feels that The Steve Stone Band gives him an opportunity to be a part of it.
Michael Marchioni from Flower Mound, Texas by way of Clifton, New Jersey is the lead guitar player. He cut his teeth on guitar playing in a number of bands in and around New York City during the late '80's and early '90's. Since then, while raising a family and relocating to Texas Michael continued to hone his skills writing songs and performing them at open mics and coffee houses. Before joining the band the others were skeptical about a Yankee knowing anything about country music. He'll tell you that "he wasn't born in Texas but got here as fast as he could"!
